Michael Weiss is an investigative reporter for CNN, focusing on international affairs. He originally joined CNN as a contributor in 2015 and can currently be seen reporting for CNN's new investigative team, writing for CNN.com and appearing on CNN and HLN.

Weiss is a columnist for Foreign Policy and NOW Lebanon. He is also a fellow at the Institute of Modern Russia where he is the editor-in-chief of The Interpreter, an online news and translation journal covering Russian foreign policy and the ongoing war in Ukraine. He has covered the Syria uprising since its inception in 2011 and reported from the front-lines of Aleppo in 2012 for Foreign Affairs magazine. He has written for Foreign Policy, The Guardian, Foreign Affairs, Politico and a host of other publications. He was previously a senior editor at The Daily Beast.

Weiss is the New York Times best-selling author of ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror. Weiss, along with his co-author Hassan Hassan, explain how these violent extremists evolved from a nearly defeated Iraqi insurgent group into a jihadi army of international volunteers who, with slickly produced murder videos, are spreading violence and mayhem across the globe.
