Former CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Board Member of Qualcomm
As CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Sylvia Acevedo led the transformation of the organization introducing 146 new STEM, Outdoors, Entrepreneurship, and Civics badges and programs, which develop skills needed to succeed in our world.
Sylvia began her career as a Rocket Scientist systems engineer in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, working on the Voyager 2 team. This role led to executive-level positions with tech companies including Dell, Apple, IBM, and Autodesk. Later, Sylvia was appointed as a White House Commissioner in the Obama Administration.
Sylvia helps organizations excel, whether by speaking to senior-level executives and employees or as a member of their Board of Directors through transformational thinking, thought leadership, and strategy.
Being on the cutting edge of technology, Sylvia was appointed to the Board of Directors at Qualcomm, Inc. as a member of the Governance Committee. Sylvia inspires others to not just be users of technology but to become designers, creators, innovators, and leaders. That leadership, inspiration, and success have been recognized throughout her career through local, national and international recognition and awards.
To inspire youth, Sylvia wrote Path To The Stars: My Journey From Girl Scout To Rocket Scientist to share her story of how she overcame many challenges to become one of the first Hispanics, male or female, to graduate with a Master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University.
