Filmmaker, Musician and Visual Artist
Blitz is a filmmaker, musician, author, and visual artist born in Ghana and based in Atlanta. He is currently directing the feature film musical THE COLOR PURPLE at Warner. Blitz has directed episodes of CHERISH THE DAY for OWN. His directing work is featured prominently in the Beyoncé Knowles-Carter project, BLACK IS KING for Disney+. His feature directorial debut, THE BURIAL OF KOJO, was acquired by Netflix through Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Films. The film won Best Narrative Feature at Urbanworld Film Festival and has become a critical breakout, scoring the rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Blitz shot the film in Ghana with local cast, and he composed and performed the score. Blitz’s debut novel, The Scent of Burnt Flowers, is scheduled for publication by Ballentine Books for 2022. Blitz is a Senior TED Fellow and a recipient of both the Vilcek Prize and Guggenheim 2020 Fellowship.
