Olympic Gold Medalist & International Boxing Hall of Famer
Claressa Shields is the most accomplished amateur boxer in U.S. History. A two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, she is also the only American boxer in history – male or female - to capture back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Games. In just 12 professional fights, she holds eleven professional world titles, and after winning the Unified Junior Middleweight Championship in just her 10th professional fight, she became the fastest fighter in boxing history to win a world title in three weight divisions.
Shields can next be seen headlining the first televised all-women’s professional boxing card in Britain, hosted at The O2 Arena in London. The Undisputed Middleweight Championship fight between Shields and Savannah Marshall will showcase the fighters who will both be risking their unbeaten status in the highly anticipated showdown.
Raised in an impoverished section of Flint, Michigan, where there has been a years-long water crisis, Shields witnessed her mother struggle with alcohol abuse. Her father, who was imprisoned until she was nine, introduced her to boxing shortly after he returned from prison. Shields’ incredible life story is the subject of a theatrical feature film, Flint Strong, written by Oscar-award-winning writer Barry Jenkins. She is also the subject of the Peabody Award-winning audio diary, Teen Contender.
A trailblazer for women’s boxing, she headlined the first women’s boxing main event on premium television (SHOWTIME) in just her second professional fight and has headlined premium television fights cards a record seven times. Shields entered an agreement with Professional Fighters League (PFL) to participate in MMA fights as part of her goal to become a two-sport star.
Shields has twice been named Sports Woman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation (founded by Billie Jean King) – becoming the first woman in 25 years to win the award more than once. She was named Female Fighter of The Year by USA Today, the Boxing Writers Association of America, and Yahoo Sports. Ranked the #1 Pound-For-Pound Female Boxer in the world by both ESPN and Ring Magazine, she was also the first female boxer ever to receive the prestigious Ring Magazine Belt which recognizes the best female boxer.
Shields has partnerships with notable brands including Bose, Everlast, and NXT LVL water.
As a Flint, MI Native Claressa is extremely passionate about shedding light on the water crisis that plagues her hometown and sports royal blue braids in all of her fights to shed light on the happenings. One in every six children experiences hunger and is food deprived. Despite her triumphs, Claressa was once one of those children. After discovering the startling realization that this was not exclusive to her childhood and that children still suffer from food deprivation, Claressa is determined to fight this reality by partnering with the Real Love Convoy.
As much as boxing is a sport it is also a business and as the old saying goes "a rising tide lifts all boats." In women’s boxing Claressa is that tide. Claressa’s ability to shed light on the sport and earn the wages she’s been able to have enabled her boxing counterparts to also grow in notoriety and earn more revenue.
Through the Shields Community Outreach Program, Claressa hosts and sponsors fitness camps for kids, young women, and families in need in Flint, MI. Her heart is positioned for identifying and addressing issues that plague her hometown and inner cities like it across the US.
