Groff is well known for playing the role of King George III in the original cast of the award-winning Broadway sensation, Hamilton. Prior to his Tony-nominated stint as the stridently unbothered King George, Groff appeared in several stage roles. He was nominated for a Tony in 2006 for his performance as Melchior Gabor in Duncan Sheik's rock musical, Spring Awakening. In 2019, he starred as Seymour in the Off-Broadway hit production of Little Shop of Horrors.
On the big screen, Groff stars in Walt Disney’s Academy Award-winning animated comedy-adventure, Frozen, lending his voice to the character of Kristoff. The film was released in November 2013 and it has since become the highest-grossing animated film in history. He also appeared opposite Bradley Cooper in Clint Eastwood’s critically-acclaimed film, American Sniper, and starred in the HBO telefilm, The Normal Heart. Directed by Ryan Murphy and adapted from the award-winning play by Larry Kramer, the film chronicles a gay activist who attempts to raise HIV/AIDS awareness during the early 1980s. He is set to star in the upcoming Matrix 4 sequel alongside Priyanka Chopra, Neil Patrick Harris, Keanu Reeves, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Carrie Anne Moss.
On the small screen, Groff gained notoriety for his role as Jesse St. James in Fox’s hit musical comedy series, Glee. He then went on to star in the HBO hit series, Looking, which chronicled the lives of three gay friends as they navigate life in modern-day San Francisco. Currently, Groff stars as serial killer-obsessed FBI agent Holden Ford in Netflix's Mindhunter.
