MJ Delaney: Biography at a Glance

Biography

MJ Delaney is a BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning director. She directed episodes 109, 110, 210, 211, 301, and 302 of TED LASSO for Apple TV+. She earned a DGA nomination and an Emmy nomination for ‘Directing for a Comedy Series’ for her Season 1 episodes. She won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and picked up a second DGA nomination for her work on the second season. 

MJ is attached to helm the final three episodes of Sally Wainwright’s new series RENEGADE NELL. The series is produced by Lookout Point for Disney+. MJ directed an episode of the recently released Apple TV+ docuseries GUTSY, with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. She also directed the final block of TEN PERCENT, the UK remake of the hit French series CALL MY AGENT, which was released on Amazon Prime Video last year. MJ directed all six episodes of FRANK OF IRELAND, produced by Sharon Horgan’s Merman for Channel 4 and Amazon Prime Video. In 2018, MJ won the BAFTA Award for Best Short Form Program for MORGANA ROBINSON'S SUMMER, written by Sharon Horgan.

DREAMLAND, her BAFTA-winning short film, written by Sharon Horgan, went live on Sky’s On Demand service and won the 2018 BAFTA for Best Short Form Programme. MJ’s debut feature film, POWDER ROOM, was picked up at Cannes in 2013 and was theatrically released by Universal Pictures later that year.

In 2016, she partnered with the United Nations Global Goals to release “#WhatIReallyReallyWant,” a re-direction of the classic Spice Girls music video, featuring women and girls from across the globe. She followed up the campaign the following year with Beyoncé’s “Freedom For Girls.” In 2018, Delaney released “Think,” an homage to the late Aretha Franklin, and a powerful call for improving education for girls around the world for The Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance.

MJ graduated from Oxford University. She is based in New York.
