Formula One World Champion
Nico Rosberg is a retired German–Finnish Formula One racing driver and 2016 Formula One World Champion while racing for Mercedes.
Since his first experience of karting at the age of six, Nico has been passionate about driving. He began championship kart racing by ten and quickly progressed up the ranks, in which one of his main competitors was long-time teammate Lewis Hamilton. Continuing to progress Nico joined the Williams F1 Team, the same team with which his father Keke had previously won the World Championship.
Away from driving Nico was extremely academic. He had to turn down the opportunity to study aeronautical engineering at the prestigious Imperial College in London and scored the highest ever marks in the Williams F1 Team engineering aptitude test.
2010 saw Nico join the Mercedes team and partner with seven-time champion Michael Schumacher. Two years later Nico earned his first F1 victory at the Chinese GP. Once again a teammate of Lewis Hamilton’s in 2016, Nico and Lewis had a well-documented battle and Nico was crowned the Formula One World Champion at the last race of the year in Abu Dhabi. Nico and his father are the only living father and son to have both won the Championship.
Just five days after Nico’s historic win he shocked the sport by announcing his retirement. After his racing career Rosberg joined the entrepreneurial world more specifically eco-investing, he now holds shares in environmentally conscious firms including Formula E, Tier Mobility, Lilium, and Chargepoint, as well as becoming a founding member of the Greentech Festival.
