Professional Skier, Climate Activist, and Co-Founder of Plastic Free Fridays
Sierra Quitiquit is a professional skier who started chasing the snow at age two, living in a converted school bus with her parents and three brothers. “It was unique, for sure,” she says. “Skiing was everything for us. We were always training, following races, and thinking about skiing. It was our way of life. It really instilled a passion in us.”
Sierra’s father got his accreditation and coached Team Quitiquit. A junior Olympian, Sierra’s days in racing bibs ended after an unfortunate encounter with snow gun shattered her femur, arm, and ribs. Sierra then eschewed conventional higher education to study massage therapy in Costa Rica where she ended up falling in love with surfing.
In addition to her athletic pursuits, Sierra has taken up modeling and filmmaking, and content production. She has co-directed and produced a web-based platform that tells her story through visual story telling.
As an outdoor enthusiast, Sierra naturally evolved into a vocal climate activist. She co-founded Plastic Free Fridays, a non-profit with the mission to help significantly reduce single-use plastics consumption among individuals. The organization raises awareness and shapes positive habits on a broad scale through education, awareness, and alternative solutions, while also working towards systemic change on the community, corporate, and policy levels.
Sierra is also an ambassador for Protect Our Winters (POW), founded by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones. POW turns passionate outdoor people into effective climate advocates and leads a community of athletes, thought pioneers, and forward-thinking business leaders to affect systemic solutions to climate change.
